Introduction

I've extensively used the Konnected Joe for various cooking methods, including rotisserie, low and slow cooks, and grilling. Now, I feel ready to share my comprehensive thoughts on it.

Here's a detailed review of the Konnected Joe from Kamado Joe, based on my three-month experience:

What I Like

  • Technology Integration: As someone who works in technology, I appreciate the blend of traditional Kamado cooking with modern tech. The option to switch between automatic and manual modes offers great flexibility.

  • Automatic Fire Starter (AFS) System: This feature eliminates the need for third-party fire starters, making it quicker and easier to reach the desired temperature.

  • Quick Heating: The fan-assisted system rapidly reaches the set temperature, whether grilling or switching from low to slow to high heat.

  • Serviceability: It's straightforward to maintain and repair, which is great for someone like me who's not typically "handy."

  • Compatibility: Being based on the Classic II, it supports all the accessories designed for it, maintaining its versatility.

Dislikes

  • Size: The 18-inch diameter feels somewhat limiting, especially for larger cooks or when using two-zone cooking techniques. A larger Big Joe format is my personal preference.

  • Basic App: While functional, the app's capabilities feel basic. More sophisticated features and improvements over time would enhance the user experience.

  • Wi-Fi Connectivity: Limited to 2.4GHz networks, which can be inconvenient for those with single SSID setups for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks.

Ideal Users

  • Beginners: The technology can ease newcomers into charcoal cooking, reducing the learning curve.

  • Tech Enthusiasts: Those who enjoy leveraging technology for convenience will appreciate the set-and-forget features.

  • Safety-Conscious Cooks: Individuals wary of manually lighting grills will find the automatic ignition a safer alternative.

Feedback for Kamado Joe

  • Enhance Notifications: Refine the logic to reduce unnecessary alerts. (This could already be fixed on recent software updates.)

  • Improve App Accuracy: Show actual temperature fluctuations rather than flat lines for a more accurate representation. (This could already be fixed on recent software updates.)

  • Add an Extra Plug: For convenience, include an additional plug for accessories like the JoeTisserie.

Conclusion

The Konnected Joe is a remarkable blend of traditional kamado cooking and modern technology. It offers great flexibility, whether you're a seasoned grill master or new to the charcoal scene. While there are a few areas for improvement, such as size and app functionality, its overall performance and ease of use make it a compelling option for those drawn to its tech-enhanced features. Whether it's the right grill for you depends on your specific needs and preferences.
