Pulled Pork Shoulder on Yoder
Pulled pork is one of those things that goes great with a lot of things. Whether it be on a sandwich or in a taco, it’s a classic favorite.

Pulled pork is something I don’t do very often. I always enjoy it (and so do my neighbors), but I end up doing ribs more often. Pulled pork takes more time and when I can cook ribs in half the time, I usually choose them.
All you need is time
In this video I use the Yoder YS640s, but you can do one on any smoker pretty easily. Just follow the steps below.
Prep
1 pork shoulder or butt
Favorite rub (I used 2 packages of Grill Mates Memphis Pit BBQ and some Hard Core Carnivore Red)
Favorite BBQ sauce if you like at the end
The Smoke
I used 50/50 cherry/hickory in this video, but you can use your personal favorite. Lighter smoking woods like Hickory, Cherry, and Apple are very common.
The Spray
1 part apple juice
1/2 part red wine vinegar
1/2 part apple cider vinegar
3/4 shot of rum
The Cook
Give pork a generous coating of rub
Let sit for 15 minutes or longer if you have the time (an hour is great)
Place pork on top rack
Cook at 250F for 3-5 hours until you get the color and bark you like (I went 4.5 in this video)
Spray generously at 1 hour and 3 hour
Wrap tight in 2-3 pieces of foil
Cook until 198-200F
Pull and let cool for 15-30 minutes
Pull out bone and shred pork by hand
Enjoy!
Can I do this on a gas or Kamado grill?
This is something that will work on any smoker, but would be tough of a gas grill, plus you would use a ton of gas (8-10 hour cook).
